JAAP WIEDENHOFF

Jaap Wiedenhoff is a building services engineer and director of Arup in the Netherlands. He is leader of building services engineers in the Netherlands and business leader for Healthcare in Europe.
On the technical side Jaap has been strongly involved in the introduction of several innovations in the Netherlands or even world-wide; amongst which concrete core activation, natural ventilation, temperature radiation and mirroring systems, development of advanced cooled ceiling systems and long term energy storage in the soil. Currently he is active in developing optimisation strategies for high rise buildings with regards to safety as well as economy and with developing tools for micro-climate assessments of high density and/or high rise developments.
In the Netherlands Jaap has taken the initiative to start the master planning and urban design group within Arup with a strong focus on ecological and economical sustainable development. The group is currently involved in several projects and research endeavours, amongst others with Atelier Rijksbouwmeester, T?F and the Berlage institute. Besides this it has worked on urban design and master planning projects in Paris, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Luxembourg, The Hague, Almere, Dubai, Seoul and Brussels.
Besides engineering Jaap’s interest is in the area of business development and the relation between culture and business. Within engineering and projects he has well established skills in conceptual design, multi-disciplinary approach and problem solving.
